Description
The Cuban poet, novelist, radio playwright and essayist, Severo Sarduy, talks with Joaquin Soler Serrano in this 1978 interview for Spanish television about his childhood in the Spanish Baroque town of Camagüey, his medical studies in Havana and art studies in Paris. Sarduy and the host explore themes in his novels, like his experimental novel "From Cuba with a Song," and discuss metamorphosis in his novel "Cobra." Sarduy expresses his interest in cosmology in his poems in"Big Bang, and his essays in "Barroco." He claims he is of a later generation of Latin American writers, more experimental and marginalized than the revered sacred cows of the Boom. The writer discusses his idea of the Baroque, eroticism, semiotics of language, and his admiration for José Lezama Lima and Luis Góngora. Severo Sarduy is one of the famous Cuban writers of the twentieth century, along with Alejo Carpentier, José Lezama Lima,Virgilio Piñera and Reinaldo Arenas.
