Description
Abstract: An artificially assembled collection of printed and manuscript cookbooks produced in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries from individuals and organizations, most of them from the Nashville or Middle Tennessee area.
Description
Scope and content: Leonora Sophia Galby's cookbook, spanning the period from 1870 to 1938, includes a variety of recipes, including some from other cooks, hand-written in a pre-printed blank book for that purpose. It is possible that her book was used by two individuals, possibly of two different generations, because two different handwriting styles predominate. Annie W. Claybrooke's recipe book (a photocopy) is undated, but probably is from the late 19th century. It includes a number of recipes attributed to other cooks, and include some household recipes as well as cooking recipes. The Outline for Food Preparation is a small booklet of canning and preserving advice, produced by the Memphis Public Schools in 1917. Hors d'Oeuvre by Mary Caldwell Clarke is undated but was probably produced in the mid to late 20th century. A Christmas cookbook from the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, produced in 2007, is also part of the collection.
